Homeless Shelter Manager Found Shot To Death

ATLANTA — Atlanta police continued to investigate Thursday after a woman was found dead in her boyfriend's Buckhead apartment on Wednesday.

Police said Zaquavia Kingsberry, 33, was found in a fourth-floor apartment at the Gramercy at Buckhead Apartments in the 3300 block of Roswell Road.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Eric Philips learned that the victim's boyfriend arrived home Wednesday and found her body in the apartment.

Investigators said Kingsberry had been shot at least twice in the head. Officials also said there was evidence of a forced entry into the apartment.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Mike Petchenik learned Thursday that Kingsberry was visiting her boyfriend from Raleigh, N.C., where she was employed with the Urban Ministry of Wake County as a manager of a women's homeless shelter.

Petchenik spoke with officials with the Urban Ministry who said Kingsberry had worked there for a little over a year, and her mother had worked for the Ministry since 1997.

One church official said Kingsberry's death is a "shock" and that she was an "absolutely wonderful person."

Maj. Keith Meadows of the Atlanta Police Department said he did not believe the attack was random. He said a person would have to have a code to enter the apartment building.

"There is some information to suggest that the victim's attacker may have known her," Meadows said.

No arrests have been made.

Kingsberry is survived by her two children -- a 15-year-old and a 4-year-old.
