Gwinnett Sheriff To Buy Full-Body Scanner

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office is planning to buy a full-body scanner similar to what is being used in airports.

On Tuesday, Gwinnett County Sheriff Butch Conway will ask the county board of commissioners to approve the $174,468 purchase. The imager will be purchased with seized drug money under the Sheriff's Special Operations fund, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonaise said.

The Sheriff's Office was one part of a Department of Justice test site program last year and was able to test out the equipment. It will be used exclusively to screen inmates, not the public.
