GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga.,None — Gwinnett County police announced Tuesday they are offering a new option for residents to file crime reports online.
The web-based program will allow crime victims to file a report on the Internet instead of waiting for an officer to come to their home.
Gwinnett County is the first in Georgia to use the service.
Authorities said residents can use the program to report crimes like robbery, identity fraud, criminal trespassing, car break-ins and theft of property.
Officials said residents will be able to print a temporary copy of the police report at home. Each case will then be reviewed by police, and the person who filed the report will receive an official e-mail from the police department when it's approved.
Police told Channel 2 Action News the web program will allow officers more time to address community issues while making services more available to the public.
Residents can file reports by logging on to gwinnettpolice.com and clicking on the Citizens Online Police Reporting button.
The online system was developed by a software company in California.
