Gwinnett County deputy saves veteran’s life

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County deputy was recognized for saving a life.

On Thursday, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office presented a commendation to Master Deputy N. Person for saving a military veteran’s life during a wellness check in the veteran’s home.

Deputy Person currently serves on the sheriff office’s Drug and Accountability Court Unit. As part of his everyday duties, he conducts scheduled wellness checks on the court participants.

During one of his shifts, Person was notified that one of the participants, a military veteran, was missing. He went to the participant’s house to check on him when a family member said he was not missing, but was upstairs.

When Person got upstairs, he realized the veteran had self-inflicted wounds and had lost a lot of blood. He immediately called medical personnel to the scene while applying a tourniquet and remained with the veteran until the paramedics arrived.

Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Person’s swift actions saved this veteran’s life.
