‘Nailed it’: Deputies prevent flat tires by clearing nails spilled onto Ga. highway

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — Carroll County deputies recently pitched in to save motorists’ tires when lots of nails were discovered to have been dumped into the roadway.

On Thursday, April 20, deputies responded to the intersection of Oak Grove Road and S. Highway 27 after someone spotted the nails and reported them.

Deputies say it’s possible that the “numerous amounts” of nails may have possibly fallen from someone’s truck.

After removing some of the nails with a broom and dustpan, deputies sought a more efficient way to remove them so several calls were made by the Sheriff’s Office to different stores that may have large magnets available that could pick up a large number of nails much quicker.

The local Lowe’s store helped the deputies’ efforts and provided two large magnets.

All of the nails were cleared from the road to save drivers the headache of getting nails in their tire(s).
