Inmate caught after escaping from middle Georgia jail

TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE: Jacquez Burke, 27, is back in custody.

The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office is searching for an inmate they say escaped from their custody Tuesday evening.

Jacquez Burke, 27, was arrested in October 2021 and has been held in the Toombs County Jail. He faces charges of terroristic threats/intimidation, riot in a penal institution and aggravated battery.

Deputies say Burke was last seen in the area of W. Lincoln Ave. and N. Victory Dr. in Lyons, Ga. around 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

They say when the man was last seen, he was handcuffed in the front and could have been wearing an ace bandage around his right hand.

He is described as being 6′2″ and approximately 185 pounds. He is possibly wearing an orange or red jumpsuit.

Anyone who sees Burke should call 911.
