GBI Charges Woman Who Accused Officer Of Rape

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A woman who accused a Clayton County police officer of raping her now faces charges of her own.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation charged 38-year-old Catina Sims with making false statements after she claimed the officer, her former boyfriend, came to her home and raped her.

Sims' attorney, Shannon Briley, said the GBI never took her client seriously. Briley said agents wanted to give Sims a lie detector test at the hospital, which she said is against the law.

"That says right there that they were not taking her seriously, and they did not respect her rights as a victim," Briley told Channel 2's Tom Jones.

Sims later denied the incident happened, but she told Jones that GBI agents coerced her into the denial when she tried to drop the charges.

"He said in order for me to drop the charges, I had to say it never happened," Sims told Jones.

But GBI spokesman John Bankhead said that Sims was not coerced.

Sims was released from jail on $5,000 bond. She said she wanted to be let out on a signature bond, but the judge refused her. Making false statements is a felony offense, and Sims faces up to five years in prison.
