DEKALB COUNTY, Ga.,None — Doraville police have arrested a former candidate for Senate for suspected drunken driving.
Police charged William Dale Cardwell, 47, with DUI. An officer stopped Cardwell at the intersection of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Motors Drive just after midnight June 3, according to police.
"While I have great respect for law enforcement, in this instance, I believe they got it wrong. I look forward to presenting my case in court," Cardwell said in a statement e-mailed to Channel 2 Action News.
Cardwell ran as a Democrat in the U.S. Senate race in 2008. Cardwell finished third in voting, behind former DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones and the eventual nominee, Jim Martin.
Before his political career, Cardwell worked as an investigative reporter at WSB-TV. He currently operates a website that investigates and recommends local businesses to consumers.
