Former Falcon Arrested On Drug, Gun Charges

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Former Atlanta Falcons football player Glenn Sharpe was arrested on a drug felony and weapon violation Wednesday night, according to Gwinnett County Police.

Authorities told Channel 2 Action News they found Valium pills and a loaded gun in Sharpe's vehicle during a traffic stop just before 11 p.m.

A Gwinnett County police officer stopped Sharpe for speeding while traveling southbound on Interstate 85 near Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

The officer searched the vehicle and found a prescription bottle for Metronidazole, but inside the container were 3.5 Valium pills, police said. The officer also found a loaded .9mm pistol near the pill bottle.

Sharpe was charged with felony possession of a narcotic and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony. He was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail and held on $11,400 bond.

Sharpe, 27, of Buford, is now a free agent. He most recently played for the New Orleans Saints during their 2009 Super Bowl-winning season. Prior to this, he played for the Atlanta Falcons from 2008 to 2009.
