ATLANTA — A large warehouse fire in northeast Atlanta sent a plume of smoke across Interstate 85 early Thursday morning.

Firefighters surrounded the building near the intersection of Piedmont Road and Lakeshore Drive.

Firefighter Injured In Halloween Warehouse Fire

The three-alarm fire included an arsenal of equipment that congested the area during the morning commute. One firefighter was injured battling the blaze when a wall collapsed, according to fire officials. The firefighter was taken to Grady Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Piedmont Road was closed to traffic between I-85 and Lakeshore Drive, but opened to drivers shortly after noon.

Officials told Channel 2 Action News the warehouse is a former antique store but currently housed a Halloween haunted maze and costume shop. Firefighters told Channel 2's Darryn Moore they quickly realized it was a maze and backed out of the building to fight the fire in defensive mode.

The fire quickly spread destroying nearly everything inside, according to officials.

Firefighters said a driver saw the flames and called 911 just before 5 a.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
