ATLANTA — A Delta airlines flight headed to Rome, Italy turned back to Atlanta after a scare on Sunday, a Delta representative said.
The plane had taken off from Hartsfield-Jackson airport in Atlanta, Delta spokeswoman Gina Laughlin said.
After the plane got into the air, a warning light in the cockpit signaled that there was possibly a problem with the flaps on the front of the wings, Laughlin said.
The pilot then turned the plane around and headed back to Atlanta "out of abundance of caution," Laughlin said. No emergency was declared on the plane.
Laughlin said the pilot had to circle the plane around and let off some fuel, because of the amount of items on board to make the long flight to Europe. She said she wasn't sure if the plane had landed yet.
Maintenance crews will assess the plane when it lands to determine if there was a problem, Laughlin said.
