COVINGTON, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting.
According to Covington police, officers were called to Legion Drive in regards to a suspicious person carrying a sword. When officers arrived, they encountered a man with a medieval-type sword.
As one of the officers began to exit his cruiser, police say the man attacked him with the sword.
The officer was able to back away from the man and gave verbal commands and drew his gun, police said. The suspect then charged with the sword over his head in attempt to strike the officer, police said. The officer responded by shooting the man.
The suspect was airlifted to Grady Hospital, where he remains in critical condition as of Thursday morning. He has been identified as 44-year-old Julian Faulkner.
The officer was not hurt.
