Child Falls Down MARTA Elevator Shaft

ATLANTA — Firefighters rescued a child who fell down at elevator shaft Monday morning at the Kensington MARTA station.

The 5-year-old boy was leaning against an elevator on the second floor of the station when the lower part of the doors opened and the child fell down the shaft, according to Capt. Eric Jackson of the DeKalb County Fire Department.

Firefighters used a ladder to climb down to the boy and secure him to a backboard. They lifted him out of the elevator shaft in a wire basket known as a Stokes basket.

Paramedics took the little boy to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston Hospital.
