DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A woman says she is lucky to be alive after a ceiling collapsed in the bedroom of her Stone Mountain apartment.

"I looked and I'm like the ceiling looks like its dipping," said Robin Roberson about her unit at the Ashland Lakeview apartment, off of North Hairston Road in Stone Mountain.

Roberson said she started noticing cracks in the ceiling over the weekend and tried to notify property management.  She says they sent a worker out but never fixed the ceiling, until it collapsed the following day.

"If we would have been sleeping, it would have seriously injured us. My son would have suffocated on insulation," said Roberson, "I was sitting in the couch my husband and I heard this big collapse and I knew it. I knew this was going to happen."

Roberson said she tried calling management several times after the collapse.

"The 20 calls were within the same day probably within three or four hours of each other," she said.

In a statement, the management from Ashland Lakeview apartments wrote:  "Once we were made aware of the issue, we made accommodations for the resident and had the issue resolved in under 24 hours."

Channel 2 Action News confirmed with Dekalb County Fire and Rescue that they've responded to several calls of ceiling collapses at this same complex within the last year.

"I would be devastated if it happened here," said Ciara Green, who said several of her neighbors have had their ceiling collapse.

Roberson says she is fearful another ceiling will collapse.

"I'm very fearful, I need to get my son out of here," she said.
