COLLEGE PARK, Ga.,None — A College Park woman was injured when her ceiling collapsed onto her Wednesday night.
The 68-year-old was asleep in her bed at the Vesta Gardens apartments on Washington Road when the ceiling came crashing down. Her son, J. C. Butler, said he heard the commotion.
I was cleaning the bathroom, and I heard something go boom boom boom boom boom, Butler told Channel 2s Darryn Moore.
He said when he saw his mother, Carrie, buried in Sheetrock and insulation, he ran for help.
I got the Sheetrock off her. She wasn't moving, so I panicked. I ran next door and got my next-door neighbor, Butler said.
Medics arrived and rushed the victim to the emergency room at Atlanta Medical Center. She was treated for a neck injury and headaches.
Butler said he thinks a leaky roof caused the ceiling to cave in. Maintenance workers at the apartment complex are aware of the problem and plan to fix the ceiling Thursday.
