The Baltimore Sun reported that Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said Baltimore Police officers in East Baltimore said the boy was carrying a replica of asemi-automatic weapon.
"(I have) no reason to believe that these officers acted inappropriately in any way," Davis said.
Davis said in a news conference that after police officers identified themselves as police, the boy ran "a good 150-plus yards," never dropping the replica.
Police said the boy's injuries were non-fatal and that he will survive.
The boy's mother told police that her son left their home with "a bb gun in his hand," police said.
