BB Gun Found At Elementary School

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — A BB gun was found at a Lawrenceville elementary school Friday.

Cedar Hill Elementary School students made the frightening discovery during lunch, school officials said. The students saw what appeared to be a gun fall out of another student's clothing in the hallway.

"Some students were walking and they reported to their teacher that another student had what was a BB gun, and it apparently fell out of the student's sweatshirt," Gwinnett County Schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach told Channel 2's Manuel Bojorquez.

While officials said the incident did not involve a threat, it was serious enough to alert parents.

"We have checked into it. We have called the parents of the students who were in the area who may have seen this because we want to make sure the parents are aware it was a BB gun," Roach said.

Cedar Hill Principal Susan Bearse also sent a letter to parents, assuring them that the situation has been taken care of.

"Let me reassure you that the weapon was unloaded and the student did not threaten anybody with it," Bearse said in the letter. "That said, we took this situation very seriously, taking immediate action and notifying our school resource officer."

Bearse added that the student involved faces disciplinary action. Officials will not release the child's age.

Roach commended the students who spoke up.

"An important part of keeping our schools safe is the role that our students play," Roach said.
