Ball Ground Elementary School closed; Catoosa, Dalton schools delayed

CATOOSA COUNTY, Ga.,None — School officials said Ball Ground Elementary School will be closed Tuesday because the school is without power. That is the only school in the system that is closed.

Barbara Jacoby, director of public relations for Cherokee County Schools, said Georgia Power told them that power would be restored in time for school, but at 6 a.m. the school was still without power and the buses were beginning to pick up children.

The school then decided to cancel classes for the day and began notifying parents individually, Jacoby said.

Officials said 70 children were already at the school by the time they realized they would have no power. School officials said they are making arrangements for those students.

The storm damage also had a couple of school systems on a 2-hour delay.

Officials said Catoosa County schools and Dalton public schools had a delayed start on Tuesday.

Tuesday is the same day that students in Ringgold return to school – four months after another round of severe weather.

A tornado in April killed eight people in Catoosa County and damaged parts of the Ringgold middle and high schools.

Now, the buildings have new roofs, carpet and paint.
