ATLANTA,None — A funny taste and smell are prompting the replacement of some Girl Scout cookies.
Consumers have complained that some Lemon Chalet Crème cookies have an off taste and smell strange, according to officials at Little Brownie Bakers, the makers of Girl Scout cookies.
Some troop leaders have received notices about the smelly cookies from the bakery.
A producer from wsbtv.com checked the Little Brownie Bakers Web site Friday morning.
"Certain lots of Lemon Chalet Crème cookies contain oils that may be breaking down which can result in an off taste and smell," said a notice on the Little Brownie Bakers Web site.
The bakery insists the cookies are safe to eat.
"We determined that while the cookies are safe for consumers to eat, they are not up to our quality standards," the company's notice said.
Cookies included in the replacement program have the following lot codes on boxes and cases: 7455881, 7455882, 7455883, 745674, 7456742, 7456743, 7457661, 7457662, 7457663, 7458521, 7458522, 7458523, 7459401, 7459402 and 7459403.
The Atlanta Girl Scouts Council Web site had this to say about the cookies:
"Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta has received telephone calls from some consumers of the Girl Scout Lemon Chalet Crème Cookie, reporting that there is an "off taste and smell". Simultaneously, our baker, Little Brownie Baker, has notified us that in response to consumer complaints, product sampling determined that although the cookies are safe to eat, certain lots "contain oils that may be breaking down, which can result in an "off taste and smell" and "are not up to our quality standards." No other cookie varieties in our product line are affected by this quality withdrawal."
