SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A recall has been issued for 1.7 million video baby monitors because their cords present a strangulation hazard if the monitors are placed too close to the crib.
The monitors were manufactured by Summer Infant of Rhode Island.
Sandy Springs mother Molly Kittrell showed Channel 2's Jim Strickland the monitor that keeps watch over 18-month-old daughter Caroline.
"We felt safer that while she was sleeping; we could also keep an eye on her," Kittrell said.

"I truly don't think she could reach (the cord) just yet, but if she really tried, she could," said Kittrell, explaining why she is likely to move the power cord farther away from the crib.
Federal safety regulators released a still photo illustrating what happened to babies in Washington, D.C., and South Carolina: accidental death by strangulation on the camera cord.
"So often you buy a product with the intention of one thing that you overlook that it could be a danger," said Kittrell.
Child safety expert Rob Carter, owner of consulting firm Prepare First, said the cords are a consistent issue.
"I see this all the time," said Carter. "Three to four times in the last five days," he said.
As for Kittrell, she's taking note.
"The word recall is shocking enough to make parents pay attention," said Kittrell.
