ATLANTA — A 10-month-old baby is recovering from serious burns after an apartment explosion, Atlanta Fire-Rescue Capt. Jolyon Bundridge said.
Fire investigators said the child's mother was trying to light some incense, with the baby in hand, when the explosion happened.
Infant Burned In Broken Pilot Light Explosion
The explosion occurred at the Allen Hills Apartments on Allen Temple Court in northwest Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators said the pilot light had gone out, and gas had built up inside the unit. When the mother went to light the incense, there was an explosion. It blew out the front window of the apartment, investigators said.
The toddler was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with first- and second-degree burns.
