ATLANTA,None — Two armed robberies occurred at Emory University fraternities within the past two weeks, according to Emory Police.
One incident happened at the Beta Theta Pi house and the other at the Phi Delta Theta house along Eagle Row.
Two people have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery at the Beta Theta Pi house, said Emory spokeswoman Nancy Seideman. Seideman said the suspects were not Emory students, but did not provide Channel 2 with their names.
In one incident, the armed robbers stole various items including computers, a cell phone and a digital camera. Emory police later recovered a BB gun left at the scene by the assailants.
Channel 2's Carol Sbarge spoke with students who live at the fraternity homes about the incidents.
"It was a bit of a shock because we typically think of Emory as a very safe community," said student Aaron Rutleg. "We kind of pride ourselves on being a little niche away from all the crime that happens in downtown Atlanta."
"Now people are starting to lock their doors and actually start to look out for their possessions and just trying to be more conscious of what's happening around them," said student Jonathan Wolpert.
Emory police have met with students to remind them to lock their rooms, walk with someone after dark and avoid unlit areas, reported Sbarge.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
