ALPHARETTA, Ga.,None — Alpharetta police have arrested a man on charges he was selling fake Rolex watches and other counterfeit merchandise out of his home.
Frederick McClimans, 31, faces felony charges.
Investigators said McClimans was selling fake Rolex Yachtmasters, which retail for $11,000 on Craigslist.
Police said the sales caught the eye of the real Swiss watch maker.
"They hired a private investigator to come do a controlled buy of a Rolex in our city," Officer George Gordon told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik.
Gordon said after McClimans sold the private investigator the counterfeit watch for $80, even telling the investigator it was a fake, she contacted Alpharetta detectives.
Gordon said the PI went back and purchased another counterfeit from McClimans and recorded the entire transaction.
"He felt comfortable what he was doing because he met the person a second time for a controlled sale," he said. "He didn't know he was under surveillance."
When police executed a search warrant at McClimans' Kimball Crest Drive home, Gordon told Petchenik detectives found a treasure trove of counterfeit merchandise, including fake Gucci handbags and fake Ray-Ban and Gucci sunglasses.
A neighbor told Petchenik he saw police raiding the home.
"We were wondering what was going on because it didn't seem like any crazy activity," said Eddy Paraja. "Kind of a strange, interesting business to be running out of a neighborhood. At least it's not anything violent or scary."
Petchenik tried to reach McClimans at his home, but nobody answered the door or return a call for comment.
