ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Officials in Alpharetta said a couple was rescued from their burning home early Friday morning.
Firefighters and police forced their way into the house on Waters Mill Drive in Alpharetta just after 1:30 a.m. after the wife called 911 from an upstairs bathroom.
Officials said the fire was in the basement area of the house, but when the couple woke up, smoke had filled their home.
Crews kicked in the front door and searched the home, pulling the couple and their pets from the house.
"The primary objective any time you enter a scene like that (is) you find the people and get them out of the residence. It was very quick work," said George Gordon of the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation, but one firefighter told Channel 2 Action News reporter Amy Napier Viteri that it appeared to be an electrical fire.
The couple was taken to the hospital for observation. They have since been released.
