WALESKA, Ga.,None — Crews responded to two separate heat-related emergencies at the same band camp as Milton High School band members practiced in sweltering summer heat Thursday, said Cherokee County Fire Department spokesman Tim Cavender.
The first call came in at 9:15 a.m. at Reinhardt University in Waleska, where the high school was holding its band camp.
A 15-year-old girl suffering from heat exhaustion and dehydration was taken to Northside Cherokee Hospital, Cavender said. A little more than an hour later, seven people were treated for heat-related symptoms. A 15-year-old boy was taken to Northside Cherokee Hospital, while the other six people received treatment at the scene.
Officials said they advised the band director to discontinue outside practice. The camp had been going on all week, said a representative for Reinhardt University.
