STATHAM, Ga. — Almost 200 officers raided a Statham home late Sunday night, which led to 124 people being detained early Monday morning, Barrow County Sheriff's Office officials said.
Barrow County Sheriff's Office deputies and officers from other area police departments raided a home on Thurmond Road late Sunday night, police said. Authorities said the raid lasted until early Monday morning and resulted in 15 arrests on suspicion of illegal sales of alcohol and drugs.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Kerry Kavanaugh spoke with Barrow County Sheriff's Office officials who said the home did not have a business or liquor license, but the home was operating as a bar. The sheriff said people inside the home were selling beer, liquor and drugs, including cocaine and crack cocaine.
Officials said multiple guns were also seized from the home.
The Barrow County Sheriff's Office said it was assisted by the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, the Monroe Police Department, the Lawrenceville Police Department, the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department, the Statham Police Department, the Georgia State Patrol, the Jefferson Police Department, the Winder Police Department, and the Barrow County Fire and Emergency Services.
"We will not tolerate this type of activity in Barrow County," said Sheriff Jud Smith.
"The operation required multiple agencies to coordinate with each other and time their arrivals to coincide with each other. In an operation of this size, with so many subjects and so many officers all converging in the same area, the potential for someone getting hurt is certainly present. However, this operation was very well planned and executed, and I'm very proud to report no injuries to any officers from any jurisdiction that participated," said Smith.
The investigation continues.
