ATLANTA — A new competition is gaining traction in Atlanta, and Morris Brown College is looking to get ahead of the curve. The school, which recently regained accreditation in 2022, is expanding its electronic sports program. Specifically, the business side of e-sports.
College President, Dr. Kevin James, tells us, “It’s a multi-billion dollar industry, approaching a trillion dollar industry, so that’s why Morris Brown College is extremely involved.”
Right now, more than 50 students are enrolled in the program. They’re learning how to play video games professionally, competing under pressure, exploring the business behind the expansive industry, and taking a deep dive into global game development.
And the work is paying off, the Morris Brown Wolverines recently won a competition playing Call Of Duty. Now our Family 2 Family partner, Delta Community Credit Union, is investing in their work.
“STEM and STEAM programming is one of our pillars to giving back and supporting the community,” says Reina Jones with Delta Community, “and when we sought out this program it was so unique and innovative and we’re excited to see what happens with it.”
The school recently upgraded their e-sports lab and lounge with all new mics, keyboards, mouses, and monitors. They’re planning to use this initial donation to upgrade their production studio equipment.
In the next 18 months, Morris Brown hopes to gain additional accreditations for their Department of Business so they can expand their programs, including e-sports.
