Unresponsive woman pulled from Lake Allatoona

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Friends pulled an unresponsive woman from Lake Allatoona on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened in a cove off the lake. Deputies said they were called around 1 p.m. about the victim.

"A middle-aged female was out swimming in the lake, was found floating, unresponsive in the lake. Her companions pulled her to shore and began CPR," Cherokee County Sheriff's Capt. Christian Higgins told Channel 2's Ross Cavitt.

Rescuers walked three-quarters of a mile through woods from the nearest road to reach the victim.

"They continued CPR," Higgins said.

The victim's condition is unclear, but deputies said rescuers were able to reestablish a heartbeat on the way to Kennestone Hospital. She left the lake in critical condition.
