1st arrest made after 'revenge shooting'

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting that injured two South Fulton County children during a birthday party.

Channel 2's Nicole Carr has learned that Demetrius Gordon was arrested Monday in a College Park home. Police believe Gordon is in a gang.

Investigators tell Carr they believe this was a revenge shooting. An adult who was injured is the believed target. The children happened to be in the crossfire.

Three-year-old Lawrence is old enough to tell Carr what happened.

"I remember him shooting and then pull up with guns,” Lawrence said.

Now, Fulton county police say he and a 5-year-old girl were victims of a revenge shooting.

“You bring this type of violence around your home by the people you associate with,” Chief Gary D. Stiles said. “That's the real tragedy here. The children are blameless but they're always caught in the middle.”

Police believe Gordon is one of four shooters to open fire on an April 20 block party where at least 60 kids were playing around a bounce house.

They traced Gordon based on a tip about his nickname, "Meeko." They believe he's in a gang and was after the one adult who was shot.

“We're not going into detail. I would call it more of a revenge,” Stiles said.

Investigators said that at least two long guns and handguns were used to unload at least 40 rounds in the South Fulton neighborhood.

And while little Lawrence can tell the story, a 5-year-old girl was critically injured and remains in Grady Memorial Hospital.

“It's always heartbreaking and extremely depressing when children are caught in the middle of these things,” Stiles said.

Police believe there were at least four shooters that evening, and a fifth person riding with the group.

The car they were in has been recovered, and Fulton County police continue to ask for tips through CrimeStoppers.
