Shots fired at bounce house during kids party; 'That's a coward act'

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Two children and one adult were injured when shots rang out at a child's birthday party in South Fulton County Thursday night.

Police say the children, ages 3 and 5, are still hospitalized. The 5-year-old is in critical condition, according to her family.

Witnesses said three men in an SUV drove into the neighborhood Thursday night and opened fire on Buckhurst Drive.

"You would come into a neighborhood and you would shoot kids?" neighbor Kendrick Veal said.

Veal organized the party for kids in his neighborhood.

Around 100 people had gathered for the party, and more than half of them were kids. Family members said the kids were playing in a bounce house when things suddenly turned to chaos.

"I'm mad as hell that someone would shoot up a bounce house with kids," said Deanna Titus, the 3-year-old's grandmother.

Witnesses said the gunmen deliberately fired at the bounce house. One bullet hit a house.

Police found more than 40 shell casings at the scene of the shooting.

"It was an assault rifle. He was hanging out the window," Veal said.

Police are still searching for the shooter.

"That's a coward act. I don't care if you consider yourself a gangster or whatever," Veal said.

A councilman elect of the city of South Fulton came to the neighborhood to view the scene and ask anyone with information to come forward.

"My concern was with the kids, you know. No one should get shot at a bounce house party," Mark Baker said. "We want people to come forward and own up, because this could be their little brother and sister."

Veal said he has organized a kid's party for the past three years, but next time he will hire police security.
