Cobb County police investigate officer-involved shooting

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County police are investigating after a shootout between an officer and a car full of suspects.

It happened at a Shell gas station on Windy Hill Road in Cobb County.

Witnesses told Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach they saw the car with three suspects inside either being pulled over, or approached, by a Cobb County police officer around 9 p.m. Saturday.

They say someone from the car fired first at police when the officer fired back.

The car continued on a short distance, hit a curb, and two men jumped out and ran.

The third suspect, who was shot, was arrested and taken to the hospital.

The two other suspects were eventually arrested -- one after he ran into a motel room next door trying to hide from police.

Gehlbach talked to the mother who was in the room with her young children at the time.

“He just pushed passed me and came in my room,” witness Nickia Young said “Like he had his hands up trying to ask for help, but I had my kids in there and my neighbor's kids also, so I told him he had to go."

Police arrested a woman at the scene who was very emotional.

Channel 2 Action News is working to find out how she may be connected to the suspects, or the car.

So far police have not released any more details on what led up to the shootout, or on the suspects.
