Channel 2 Action News plans extensive 'Your Voice Your Vote' election coverage

Channel 2 Action News is planning extensive coverage of Election Day 2016 across all of our platforms.

ATLANTA — Election Day is the poll that counts, and Channel 2 Action News is prepared to deliver election information on every platform -- from television to online, on social media and in apps.

“There are few issues more critical than local, statewide and national elections,” said Tim McVay, Vice President and General Manager of Channel 2 WSB-TV. “WSB-TV has been committed to covering the key issues and campaigns so that our viewers are fully informed before going into the voting booth on Election Day, and fully up to date as the results come in.”

“Based on the record turnout for early voting, we’re anticipating one of the largest voter turnouts for this presidential election,” said Misti Turnbull, News Director for Channel 2. “We have been covering the election for over a year. From caucuses to primaries, national conventions to local rallies, we’ve dedicated more resources than any other news organization in Atlanta to bring viewers the most in-depth coverage.”

On Election Day, Channel 2 Action News will be out in force. Here’s a brief on the points of coverage:

Candidate Access

WSB-TV offered candidates who face opposition in the upcoming election free airtime to deliver a 3-minute position statement to our viewers.

The initiative was designed to enhance the quantity and quality of information available to viewers as they make their important voting decisions.

WSB-TV aired statements from 15 candidates. The statements of the candidates for congressional and statewide races in Georgia aired during a special programming block on Oct. 30.

The statements were allowed to run unedited with some restrictions and guidelines given to candidates. Because of FEC and FCC regulations and constraints, we were unable to air a position statement for any candidates who are running unopposed. Those video are available here.

Voter/Community Information

Channel 2 aired a public service campaign encouraging citizens to register to vote. From the registration deadline until the elections, the public service announcements will encourage citizens to vote on Election Day.

Online Coverage

WSBTV.com and the Channel 2 Action News app will host live election results from 8 to 10 p.m. Tuesday.
