Channel 2 Action News announces new co-anchor for 4 p.m. newscast

ATLANTA — Tim McVay, vice president and general manager for Channel 2 WSB-TV, Atlanta’s most watched television station, announced today that Erin Coleman will join John Bachman on “Channel 2 Action News at 4 p.m.” starting Monday, November 26, 2012. Bachman co-anchored the 4 o’clock. news with the recently retired Monica Pearson.

In the most recent ratings period, “Channel 2 Action News at 4 p.m.” ranked as the number one newscast in its time period, the number one local program in its time period, and the number one 4 p.m. newscast in the country’s top ten media markets.

“It takes a very special person to fill the anchor role at WSB-TV,” said Tim McVay, vice president and general manager for Channel 2 WSB-TV. “They must demonstrate two key qualities: a never-ending commitment to journalistic excellence and our community as well as a command of the inner-workings of a newscast.”

“Erin has proven that she has those qualities,” added Mike Dreaden, news director. “She joins our outstanding anchors--John Bachman, Jovita Moore and Justin Farmer. Through her roles of anchoring the early evening and late weekend news and reporting during the week, she has demonstrated the depth, caliber and commitment demanded of the anchor chair at ‘Channel 2 Action News at 4 p.m.’”

“I’ve got big shoes to fill,” said Coleman after Marian Pittman, Channel 2’s station manager, announced the promotion to the news staff. “I appreciate the trust and support shown by Tim, Marian and Mike. I look forward to joining John and the team at 4 p.m.”

“Erin’s promotion continues Channel 2’s investment in our news commitment to serve our community,” said Pittman. “Over the last year and a half, we’ve hired more reporters, photographers, editors and writers to support the increased amount of local news coverage. At the same time, we’ve invested in our technology including building StormTracker 2 HD into the most powerful radar in the country,” said Pittman.

Coleman joined WSB-TV Channel 2 in October of 2009. Before moving to Atlanta, she worked for three and a half years as the weekend anchor/reporter at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, NC. Prior to her tenure at WRAL, Erin worked for several years at WFMY in Greensboro, NC. She started her career at KAIT in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Over the years, Erin has covered everything from hurricanes to politics, and notably secured a one-on-one interview with President Barack Obama during a campaign stop in North Carolina.

Erin is originally from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. She graduated from Brown University and has a Masters from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.

She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the Junior League. She currently resides in Cobb County.

Channel 2 Action News attracts more viewers in each news program than any station in the market and consistently wins the local news ratings in every newscast. It drew 61% of the local news viewers in the recently completed October ratings period.
