Pastor T.D. Jakes in negotiation to buy huge amount of land in Atlanta

ATLANTA — Megachurch pastor T.D. Jakes is looking at developing land at the former Fort McPherson base.

Jakes is in talks to buy 132 acres of the old Army base in southwest Atlanta. His real estate development company is in a 45-day negotiation period.

But Jakes has not released any specific plans for the land so far.

“I am proud of my long history in the City of Atlanta through my legacy events and film production. I am excited to add to the cadre of events in this next step that will enable us to explore the opportunities that Fort Mac has extended as a part of this community development project. We are thrilled that this exciting opportunity will be developed adjacent to the historic landmark of Tyler Perry Studios. We are committed to taking the time to include and understand the specific needs of the burgeoning community,” Jakes said in a statement.

Filmmaker Tyler Perry owns 330 acres of the former base, where his production studios are located.

Perry purchased the land in 2015 and built the $250 million Tyler Perry Studios, which has 12 massive sound stages for other Hollywood studios to rent.

During the pandemic, Perry offered temporary housing for crews and staff at the site.
