Atlanta ranked No.1 place to celebrate the Fourth of July!

ATLANTA — Independence Day has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, and it remains a symbol of patriotism today.

The holiday's tradition dates back to the American Revolution of 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was historically drafted by Thomas Jefferson.

The Fourth of July is nationally celebrated, and according to the personal finance website WalletHub, Atlanta is the place to celebrate America's Independence!

WSB-TV will host "Georgia Salutes America" live from Centennial Olympic Park Drive July 4 at 8:30 p.m. ONLY on Channel 2!

Expect a fun mix of musical entertainment, family friendly activities, food, fireworks and much more.

WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities based on how well that state balanced holiday costs and fun.

Their website states the that National Federation projects that American households will spend more than $7 billion on Fourth of July food alone, and that number is growing.

Not to mention the firework-related accidents and their repercussions as a factor for the cost of the holiday.

Experts scored Atlanta as the best overall place to celebrate the Fourth of July by using five dimensions of measurements for the study.

The five dimensions that were scored were Fourth of July celebrations, affordability, attractions and activities, safety and accessibility and Fourth of July weather forecast.

Atlanta's celebration score ranks second to New York, and our affordability ranking is 34th, with Phoenix, Arizona, ranking No.1 in that category.

Atlanta also placed No.7 in our attraction and activities category, with Cincinnati, Ohio, coming in first place.

Atlanta placed No.86 in its safety and accessibility ranking, with Jersey City, New Jersey, taking the lead in that category.

Lastly, Atlanta scored No.14 in the Fourth of July weather forecast category, with Fremont, California, taking first place.

So, start making plans to attend the South's most spectacular firework show with WSB-TV, Tuesday, July 4, at Centennial Olympic Park. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 9 p.m.

This event salutes those who serve our country.
