Risk for severe storms across metro Atlanta returns this weekend

ATLANTA — Heavy rain is coming midday Sunday and is expected to stick around through the evening.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Ashley Kramlich is tracking the severe threats and how they could impact your weekend.

We’re breaking down the timing and threats with the system, for Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

Most of the metro Atlanta area will be under a Level 1 out of 5 risk. Areas south of Interstate 20 are under a higher Level 2 out of 5 risk.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Heavy rain, some gusty winds in the metro Atlanta area and Georgia mountains
  • Damaging wind gusts, large hail, isolated tornado, heavy rain south of I-20
  • Storm expected to last from Sunday afternoon to Sunday evening
