Behind a sharp cold front, light rain is expected to mix with or change over to light snow before ending late tonight. Areas that have the best chance of seeing any snow will be across mainly the higher elevations of north Georgia, from Chatsworth to Blue Ridge to Blairsville. Snow accumulations of up to 1/2 inch will be possible. Locally higher amounts may occur along northwest facing slopes. Timing of the transition to rain and snow, or all snow, will be between 11 PM this evening and 2 AM early Friday morning. Precipitation should end shortly thereafter, as temperatures continue to fall across the area. Even through late Friday morning, temperatures are expected to remain below freezing which will create some slick spots on roadways, especially bridges and overpasses. Use extra caution if you are planning travel late tonight through Friday morning across the higher elevations of north Georgia. $$
