Here’s what the other NL East managers have to say about Braves in 2020

NORTH PORT, Fla. — The Braves are back in Florida for spring training and ready to get the season going as they hunt for a World Series championship in 2020.

It will prove to be another challenging year for the Braves, considering the team plays in a stacked National League East.

The Braves have won the past two division titles, however rival Washington Nationals won the 2019 World Series.

Channel 2 Sports Director Zach Klein spoke with the other managers in the NL East during a MLB event at the Braves facility.

Each of them shared their thoughts on the offseason, moves made by the Braves and the outlook for 2020.

Mets manager Luis Rojas (1st season)

On Braves winning the division: “The Braves are a great contender. The Braves always were prepared. I met their manager today so that was a great experience. We’re looking forward to facing them this year along with the other guys in the division. Always admire the talent that they are carrying, the blend of young guys and veterans."

On Ronald Acuna, Jr.: “He definitely has great tools and you got to admire that. Just a great personality. I remember seeing him on the field just interacting with Amed Rosario. They have a really close friendship. We get prepared for his aggressiveness on the bases. The kid is going to try to go first to third. We know that if you make a mistake in the zone, it can hurt you. We go thoroughly in the plan against guys like that and other guys in the lineup as well. You got to prepare against a talented team like the Braves have.”

Marlins manager Don Mattingly (5th season)

On Braves offseason: “They were aggressive early. Seemed like they went after their guys quick. Enough problems on my side of the state, but we know how the Braves are going to be. Talking about Acuna, Fredie and that whole group of guys. They’re balanced. They got some young, they got some old. They are going to be a handful.”

On Acuna: “Talent’s there 100 percent. He has got a great swing. He can do everything. It’s kind of like you think Michael Jordan is going to be good for a long time. He’s got that type of ability. I think really the ball is in his court.”

Nationals manager Dave Martinez

“They’re going to be tough. They’re always tough. They won divisions two years in a row. My focus and my concern is the Washington Nationals and what we did. I think we filled in some voids that we needed.”

“On paper, they got I believe one of the best bullpens right now. But I like where we’re at. It’s going to be a battle all year. I know that. They are going to be good."

“He’s a young, exciting baseball player. I love watching him and I love the way he attacks the game. He plays both sides of the game, which for a young kid at his age is phenomenal."
