COBB COUNTY, Ga — The Braves have shaken up their pitching depth, acquiring starting Jake Odorizzi from the Houston Astros in exchange for reliever Will Smith.
Odorizzi, 32, has a 3.75 E.R.A. with the Houston through 12 starts this season and brings 11 years of starting pitching experience to Atlanta.

Smith, who was in his third season as Brave, has struggled this season, especially as of late. Despite his struggles in 2022, Smith played a pivotal role in the team’s 2021 World Series victory, recording the final out. of the season.
Odorizzi has a $6.5 million player option on his contract for next season.

In addition to Odorizzi, the Braves also acquired outfielder Robbie Grossman from the Detroit Tigers, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Grossman, 32, adds some outfield depth to Atlanta as it gears up for another postseason run.
