Preseason all-state: Class A features big talent

ATLANTA — Class A football in Georgia has produced some of the state’s best players the past few decades, from Herschel Walker to Garrison Hearst to Boss Bailey.

Top college programs continue to notice. At least six players on the GHSF Daily/Atlanta Journal-Constitution Class A preseason all-state team will sign with major Division I programs.

Already committed are Calvary Day TE Milan Richard (Clemson), First Presbyterian OL Caleb Samuel (North Carolina), George Walton Academy RB Stanley Williams (Kentucky), Wilcox County DL Johnny Dwight (Alabama) and Pace Academy DB Denzel Franklin (Stanford).

Eagle’s Landing Christian DE Andrew Williams has more than 40 offers, including those from Clemson, Auburn, Notre Dame, Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Private-school players outnumber public school players 15-12 on the team. Defending private champion ELCA has three members in Williams, QB Dalton Etheridge and LB Josh Shockley. Public-school champ Emanuel County Institute is represented by OL Jarrod Downer and RB/LB James Brown.
