Eric Holland told the judge he was “truly remorseful” for killing Richard Miller. Miller’s remains were being transported in coolers in the bed of a pickup driven by Holland, The Associated Press reported.

Police said that Miller had been shot several times, including at least once in the head, before he was dismembered.

Holland had pleaded guilty earlier this year to a lesser charge to avoid trial on murder, which could have brought a life sentence. Instead, he was given a term of at least 18 years up to 45 years behind bars on second-degree murder and felony theft, the AP reported.

In court, Holland said he hoped that police would continue to look for his motive for Miller’s killing.

“I was going to bring it up in court, but I’m not going to because of family members,” Holland told the judge. “There was a reason, and I hope they’ll get closure today.”

Miller was reported missing in November 2021. Police eventually said that Holland killed Miller during an argument.

Holland, however, told The Las Vegas Review-Journal that he wanted police to look into the disappearance of Miller’s ex-wife, Jing Mei Zhu, and whether Miller was responsible.

Miller had testified during his divorce that his wife had returned to China, but Holland told the newspaper that he believes that Miller killed his former wife.

Miller’s daughter, Amanda Potter, told the Review-Journal that she knows about Holland’s accusations against her father but she doesn’t believe them.
