Jessiah Plemons, 31, of Lenoir City; Lillian Rose, 25, of Maryville; and Madison Davis, 23, of Knoxville, died in the crash, according to the Knoxville News-Sentinel.

According to the Knoxville Police Department, the trio was in a vehicle just after 3 a.m. EDT on Interstate 40 when their Dodge pickup left the roadway and struck a guardrail, WATE reported. The trio exited the vehicle and were standing next to it when they were hit by a Chevrolet pickup truck, the television station reported.

All three were pronounced dead at the scene, according to WATE. The driver of the pickup was taken to an area hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, the television station reported.

Jessiah Plemons leaves behind two children, ages 2 and 5, according to WATE. Rose also had two children, People reported.

Family members told WATE that the couple decided to elope, and kept their decision quiet until they shared the news on Facebook.

“They had found each other,” Milea Effler told WATE about her brother and his wife.

“Lily was just the life of our family,” Rose’s niece, Selena McClelland, told the television station. “She would just bring sunshine into the room. Her laughter would fill the room.”

Michelle Plemons, Jessiah Plemons’ mother, said receiving the news about the crash was a “nightmare.” Her son had asked her to watch the children on Friday.

“Next thing you know, I get a knock on my door,” Michelle Plemons told WATE. “And it’s just, it’s every mother’s nightmare. Every mother’s nightmare,” Plemons said. “Jess was my everything, the glue that held our family together. Lily made my baby happy up until the very end.”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

GoFundMe pages have been set up for Jessiah Plemons and Lily Rose.
