The magnet-lined closure can fail and the magnets can come off, which could cause an injury or even death if the magnet is ingested. If multiple magnets are swallowed they can be attracted to each other or another metal object and become stuck in a person’s digestive system, causing perforations, twisting and/or blocking of intestines, infection, blood poisoning and death, the CPSC said.

About 1.9 million soft coolers and gear bags were sold in the U.S. and another 40,760 were sold in Canada.

The recall affects the following products.

  • Yeti Hopper M30 Soft Cooler 1.0
  • Yeti Hopper M30 Soft Coller 2.0
  • Yeti Hopper M20 Soft Backpack Cooler
  • SideKick Dry Gear Case

They all have a main pocket closure with high-powered magnets in an enclosed heat-sealed plastic strip.

The coolers and gear cases were sold in a variety of colors with the brand name printed on the front. They also have a hang tag with Yeti written on it, the CPSC reported.

Owners of the items are being told to stop using them immediately and to contact Yeti for a replacement or refund.
