Recall alert: Joybird recalls dressers because of tip-over, entrapment concerns

Joybird furniture recalled its Blythe dressers Tuesday because the product failed to comply with voluntary stability standards when not anchored to a wall, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement.

Hazards cited by the CPSC included the possibility of tip-over and entrapment that could lead to serious injury or death to children.

The recall involves approximately 100 units of the Blythe dresser, which weigh about 200 pounds. The unit measures 66 inches wide, 37.5 inches high and 18 inches deep, the CPSC said in its statement. The dressers are constructed out of plywood with a painted white finish exterior and nine brown-colored, veneer-faced drawers, the CPSC said. The drawers have round knobs finished with a low-gloss lacquer.

Stickers on the back of each recalled dresser say, “Stitch Industries, Inc.,” the month and year of manufacture, and “TSCA Title VI Compliant,” according to the CPSC. The dressers were sold online at Joybird.com from October 2017 through July 2019 for approximately $1,700.

The CPSC said there were no reported incidents associated with the dresser, according to Consumer Reports.

Consumers should contact Joybird, based in Commerce, California, for a free in-home repair to the dresser’s legs or a free one-time in-home installation of a tip-over restraint kit by a technician. Joybird will also include a $50 gift card to be used on the company’s website, or will pick up the dresser for free and issue a full refund.
