On Thursday, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called out to a house in the 12000 block of Wheeler Road in Dover, Florida, for reports of a residential robbery, according to a news release. The victim reportedly told deputies that they saw a man walking away from their house wearing one of their hats. The victim also reported that the man had even ate food and threw items around the house.

HCSO said that deputies learned that the man had gotten into the house through a door in the living room which was unlocked. The victim’s puppy was also found dead in a crate next to that door.

The man was identified as Alexander Hernandez-Delgado Jr., 25, according to WFLA. Delgado allegedly stabbed the victim’s puppy with a machete and left it in the crate with the puppy.

HCSO said the man was located shortly after across the street at a Dollar General. He allegedly admitted to being inside the house.

“I have zero tolerance for abuse of any kind,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister in the news release. “Unfortunately, this is not the first case of animal cruelty we’ve seen recently. I can’t stress enough how important it is to me that these suspects face charges. This suspect has a history of violent behavior in the area, and it is vital that he’s held accountable so he can’t continue to harm any innocent person or animal.”

Delgado is facing charges of petit theft, aggravated cruelty to animals with a weapon and armed burglary of a dwelling, according to WFLA. He remains behind bars on a $50,000 bond.
