Louisville Metro Police said Mayor Beverly Chester-Burton fell asleep in the line for the restaurant’s drive-through around 11 p.m. Multiple people tried to awaken her by knocking on her vehicle’s window, the Louisville Courier Journal reported.

“At some point (Chester-Burton) struck the rear of a truck which was pushed into the rear of another vehicle,” police said. “She then exited the parking lot striking the (light) pole.”

Officers arrived and could smell alcohol on her breath. Police said Chester-Burton told them she had two apple martinis around 5 p.m. but later said it was 9 p.m., the Courier Journal reported. Chester-Burton also failed a field sobriety test. She was unable to keep her head straight and walk a straight line, investigators said.

She was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. She was released Wednesday.
