Man accused of firing gunshots into Whataburger in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — A Texas man is accused of firing gunshots into a Whataburger restaurant on Friday and throwing his weapon into the San Antonio River, authorities said.

Pedro Ortega, 18, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, KSAT reported.

According to police, the shooting occurred Friday evening at the downtown San Antonio restaurant. There were no injuries, the television station reported.

Investigators said Ortega had an argument with several people at the Whataburger, KABB reported. According to the police, Ortega walked across the street and got a handgun. He allegedly fired 10 shots into the glass windows, the television station reported. There were about 40 people inside the restaurant at the time, authorities said.

According to police, the bullets pierced cups, hamburgers and the restaurant’s Christmas tree, KSAT reported.

Authorities said they are still looking for the gun, the television station reported.
