Louisville police officer saves week-old infant who had stopped breathing

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A pair of Louisville police officers sprang into action Monday to help revive a week-old infant who had stopped breathing at a gas station.

Louisville Metro Police officers Nick Green and Noah Cole were inside the store shortly before 8 p.m. EDT when the child’s father ran inside and said the newborn was not breathing, WHAS-TV reported.

The LMPD posted a video of the two officers rushing outside to tend to the child, whose name is Emma.

The video shows the two officers following the man to a red truck, where the child’s mother was holding the infant, WDRB-TV reported.

“I need EMS code 3 for a newborn not breathing at Shorty’s at 18th and Broadway,” Cole said in the video.

While Cole called for an ambulance, Greene took Emma from her mother and used the palm of his hand to gently perform back blows on the infant, according to WAVE-TV.

The taps worked, as Emma began breathing and started crying, the television station reported.

“Thank you,” the mother tearfully tells Greene as he gives Emma back to her.

Emma was taken to an area hospital to be evaluated, LMPD officials said. Emma’s family later told police that their daughter is now “home, happy and healthy,” WAVE reported.
