BAYTOWN, Texas — The body of an infant was found inside a Texas motel room after SWAT officers negotiated with a woman believed to be the child’s mother, authorities said Tuesday.
The cause of the child’s death was not immediately known, Lt. Steve Dorris, spokesperson for the Baytown Police Department, told the Houston Chronicle.
According to the Baytown Police Department officers were called to a Scottish Inn after receiving a Crime Stoppers tip about a dead child in one of the rooms, KTRK reported.

When officers arrived around 8 a.m., they found the door to the room open, KHOU reported. Police then saw a woman inside the room with what appeared to be a “long gun," according to the television station.
Officers called a SWAT unit, and despite attempts to negotiate the woman refused to leave the room, KTRK reported. At 1:25 p.m., SWAT members rushed the motel room and took the woman into custody, KHOU reported. Officers also found the child’s body, the television station reported.
The woman, who has not been identified, was taken to an area hospital, the Chronicle reported. No criminal charges have been filed, Dorris told the newspaper.
The cause of the infant’s death is not immediately known, but police said the child did not appear to be shot, KTRK reported.
