Homeless student graduates as valedictorian at Florida high school

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Florida student graduated as his class valedictorian despite the hardships of being homeless.

Overcoming obstacles is just what A. Philip Randolph senior Martin Folsom does. Despite living in shelters with his mom, Folsom finished top of his class.

Folsom was valedictorian — and while he didn’t get to walk across the stage due to the pandemic, his accomplishments could never be taken away.

“It means a lot,” Folsom told WJAX. “It kind of gives me a sense of all that all I’ve done and all I’ve accomplished is worth it.”

He plans to attend Valdosta State and hopes to later work for the FBI.
